Warhammer 40,000/Warhammer Fantasy / Re: Destroyer Weapon Rule
« on: November 09, 2015, 07:42:52 PM »
In a tourney, Damian hit two tightly packed units of space marines with one small unit of eldar Wraithguard with D scythes (D, but minus 1 on the D chart).  It was like 17 hits.  He had to roll on the D chart, roll to wound at S10, then I made 2 or 3 hits worth of saves on some 4+ invulnerable models, but the rest dropped.

This Helps immensely!  it confirms the way I have been playing the rule.  Now that's why D-scythes are so nasty.  They provide more hits.  Whereas Wraith Cannons are just, "BOOM Headshot! BOOM!" aka one shot one kill.

Warhammer 40,000/Warhammer Fantasy / Destroyer Weapon Rule
« on: November 08, 2015, 08:28:39 PM »
So, having read this rule over and over and over.  Then having another friend read the rule a few times.  it seems to make the D weapons a little less potent.  Here's what the rule reads verbatim:

"If a weapon has a D instead of a Strength value in its profile, it is a Destroyer weapon.  To resolve a Destroyer weapon's attack, roll To Hit as you would for a standard attack.  If the attack hits, roll on the table instead of rolling To Wound or for armor penetration.  Most Destroyer Weapons have AP1 or AP2, so armor saves are not typically allowed.  Cover saves and Invulnerable saves can be taken against hits from a Destroyer weapon as normal, unless a Devastating Hit or Deathblow result is rolled.  For the Purposes of determining if a Destroyer hit has the Instant Death special rule, assume it has Strength 10.  Multiple Wounds/ Hull Points inflicted by a Destroyer hit do not carry over to other models in the unit (any Excess are lost)."

So there's the whole rule.  Now the last sentence makes the D weapon less scary. "Multiple Wounds/ Hull Points inflicted by a Destroyer hit do not carry over to other models in the unit (any Excess are lost)."

Does this mean if I hit 2 times, against a 5 man squad, with a D weapon, then roll on the table receiving a 2 and 5 giving me D3 wounds a piece can only effectively wound 2 models?  that since there were only 2 hits that essentially only 2 models can take the wounds.  since, "any excess are lost."

what's the ruling on this one?  Please let me know.  Happy Gaming!

ya know, the thought crossed my mind about making my own.  But I like pretty things.  sentimental value may be the better option when creating your own objectives.  Thanks for the insight!

just played an ITC game but modified it for 2k points.  Nids vs Ultramarines.  Lets just say, a land Raider Spearhead with 3 Terminator squads and a librarian Conclave is pretty nasty.  Then to boot having the Armored support with 3 Whirlwinds, Techmarine and a Thunderfire Cannon.  Nid player was a friend of mine that had 96 models on the field.  His greatest threat was his Flyrant with the normal setup that everyone runs.  It slayed my warlord and the thunderfire cannon easily.

On the note of the ITC game.  We rolled up Scenario 5.  The points were so close each turn.  the game was so balanced.  there was always a chance to gain points.  I mean the Nids kept getting King of the Hill for having so many units in the middle.  I didn't have enough until I came out of my LR and assaulted everything.  the secondary was great with Big Guns never tire.  at no point did I ever feel as if the game was more one sided.

I highly recommend at least playing one of the games.  very entertaining and balanced.  Once I have more time, I'd love to get another game in.  Until then, Happy Gaming.  May the dice gods be ever in your favor.
