Warhammer 40,000/Warhammer Fantasy / Destroyer Weapon Rule
« on: November 08, 2015, 08:28:39 PM »
So, having read this rule over and over and over.  Then having another friend read the rule a few times.  it seems to make the D weapons a little less potent.  Here's what the rule reads verbatim:

"If a weapon has a D instead of a Strength value in its profile, it is a Destroyer weapon.  To resolve a Destroyer weapon's attack, roll To Hit as you would for a standard attack.  If the attack hits, roll on the table instead of rolling To Wound or for armor penetration.  Most Destroyer Weapons have AP1 or AP2, so armor saves are not typically allowed.  Cover saves and Invulnerable saves can be taken against hits from a Destroyer weapon as normal, unless a Devastating Hit or Deathblow result is rolled.  For the Purposes of determining if a Destroyer hit has the Instant Death special rule, assume it has Strength 10.  Multiple Wounds/ Hull Points inflicted by a Destroyer hit do not carry over to other models in the unit (any Excess are lost)."

So there's the whole rule.  Now the last sentence makes the D weapon less scary. "Multiple Wounds/ Hull Points inflicted by a Destroyer hit do not carry over to other models in the unit (any Excess are lost)."

Does this mean if I hit 2 times, against a 5 man squad, with a D weapon, then roll on the table receiving a 2 and 5 giving me D3 wounds a piece can only effectively wound 2 models?  that since there were only 2 hits that essentially only 2 models can take the wounds.  since, "any excess are lost."

what's the ruling on this one?  Please let me know.  Happy Gaming!

Warhammer 40,000/Warhammer Fantasy / Tank Shock Rule Check
« on: June 16, 2015, 07:00:44 AM »
For the first time in my 40k gaming, a tank shock was involved.  according to page 92 in the 7th Ed rule book it states,

"If an enemy unit other than another vehicle is reached, that enemy unit must take a Morale check and immediately fall back if it fails.  If the test is passed, the unit simply lets the Tank move through, as if it was not there.  Regardless of the result of the test, the tank keeps moving straight on, possibly Tank Shocking more enemy units until it reaches its final position.  If the tank would move into contact with a friendly model, enemy vehicle, impassable terrain or a board edge, it immediately stops moving 1" away.

The paragraph right after this one states as follows:

"If some enemy models in the enemy unit would end up underneath the vehicle when I reaches its final position(it makes no difference wether the unit is falling back or not), these models must be moved out of the way by the shortest distance, leaving at least 1" between them and the vehicle whilst maintaining unit coherency and staying on the board.  Any models that cannot manage this are crushed and removed from play as casualties with no saves allowed.  Crunch!"

My question is:  If the Tank performing the tank shock stops on top of the unit, but the unit has passed it's morale check.  Does that mean I can move all models affected by the tank shock out of the way by the shortest distance (maintaining unit coherency)?  Any models that cannot maintain coherency are crushed even though the unit passed morale.  The first paragraph stated is pretty clear.  Move out of the way if morale was passed.  The second contradicts.

Please help me to clarify.  Tank shock is actually a very intricate rule as well as fun.  Especially if your Rhino is crushing the puny fragile Eldar Guardians.

So, I have been still playing with the idea of starting another army.  I have a few books to choose from.  Grey Knights, Orks, but best of all, Khorne Daemonkin.  I think I have finally narrowed down my search.

I do not have a mailing address to where I am at while going to school.  But that did not stop me from purchasing the eBook Version.  It takes a bit of getting used to.  Flipping through all the pages with a slight lag of the content loading.  However, the best feature of all is the ability to search for key words.

With all of that said, the datasheets are amazing!  Adding to the fluff of the Deity, Khorne, and his endless passion for blood and butchery.  Although it's missing one of the biggest members for Butchery, Khârn.  What a huge Disappointment.  It seems that the Codex has left out such a key player in such adequate display of pleasing Khorne.

What are your thoughts?  Should the Betrayer been included in the release of the Khorne Daemonkin?  Or is there some other ultimate purpose behind GW not putting the bearer of Gore Child in the codex?

Played a 1500 point game of Blood Angels vs Orks.  Utilized Dante with a 6 man Sanguinary Guard squad.
Now I totally forgot that after deep striking that the unit can run.  this would have alleviated 3 deaths from a str 8 ap 2 blast temp from a Morkanaught.  However, the Banner is an awesome tool to use.  It is worth it's weight for 25pts.  Dante with Hit and Run is still an awesome rule.  jump out their turn, and jump back in on yours with the primary detachment bound army list.  Furious charge and The Red Thirst (aka Vampire buff? lawl  ;D)  Dante fell on the last turn giving up Slay the Warlord.  but not before he took out at least 4 ork boyz a turn for 3 turns, 3 killa kanz also fell from his axe.  but it was a mere single hit from a killa kan that took him down.

Mephiston was also utilized.  Which was amazing to see Dante and Mephiston being used in a 1500 pt list.  He is an awesome support tool.  the Sanguinary table is both offensive and supportive.  I attached him to a squad of death company.  but later detached him to go after the primary objective in Emperors Will Mission.  I claimed if for 2 turns.  but lost due to Linebreaker from my Opponent and Slay the warlord.

I just could not get Dante in a challenge with any character.  But, my opponent was smart in that aspect.  Dante would have torn him to shreds.  The Sanguinary Guard squad is an amazingly tough unit to fight with.  The only thing I suggest is running a Priest with a jump pack to convey Feel No Pain and add +1 to WS.  Not a bad gig.

After 57 Attacks only one Sanguinary guard fell.  the 2+ save counts for a lot.  Challenged and removed the powerclaw Nob to allow saves.  the Warboss didn't have an AP 2 weapon.  which made the assault phase much more difficult for the Orks.  Ultimately I withdrew from the fight after losing the last SG and Dante losing 1 wound.  Seeing that I had about 10 more boyz and a Pain boy to go through before I got to the boss, I decided to support my Predator in the backfield by taking out some killa kanz.  Hit and run after an initiative test during your opponents turn allows you to get Dante wherever you need him.  3D6, then he can jump on your movement phase for 12".  Enough said.  Highly mobile.  I just needed to remember a few rules and tactics.  but hey, I have been out of the game for over 6 months and will be soon for another 3 months.  first game in a while.  I have a lot to do.

Huge tip:  Scouts are awesome at soaking up fire going to ground for a 2+ cover.  but they are limited in what they can kill and their BS is not up to par with the rest of the BA.  Sit them on a main objective if playing Tactical Objectives.  but when you are facing a high offensive army, choose tactical marines in a rhino to high tail it out and maintain your options.

Television & Movies / first topic! Firefly
« on: January 29, 2015, 10:59:51 PM »
Firefly followed by the movie, Serenity.  Thoughts?

Lots of changes with the new codex.  Two lords of war, Assault Squads now back in Fast Attack, Death Company moved in to Elites, etc.

However, the big one for me, since Assault squads were troops, Baal Predators moving from Fast attack to heavy support.

I was going to have 2 Baal Predators and a squadron of Speeders to fill up my list.  Now I am glad I did not spend the money on a second Baal.  The list for Heavy Support is jam-packed with options.  3 types of Land Raiders, 2 Predators, Whirlwind, Vidicator, Devastators, Stormraven Gunship.  I am pretty sure the BA did not need another HS choice to pick from.

What's your take on the new Codex Adeptus Astartes?
